In the Wake of Totality
When news of clear skies in Vermont hit the airwaves, the estimated number of travelers heading northeastward on April 8th precipitously increased. Schools previously slated to finish up by noon were now closed for the whole day and more and more business owners and employees took the day off for what had become a once-in-a-lifetime holiday.
To accommodate the pilgrimage of cars and visitors to the Green Mountain State, among many strategies, city officials closed roadways and, in one example, converted Route 127 (the Burlington Beltline to and from Colchester) to a mile-long parking lot with shuttle buses transporting passengers to the Waterfront!
Along with millions of others along the Path of Totality, Vermonters gathered and celebrated at music festivals, meditation gatherings, with the exchange of wedding vows, and in Vermont style floated above Lake Champlain in hot air balloons.
On this extraordinary day, I stayed local and intimate. The ground of this writing is my experience from the morning onward and afterwards, fertilized along the way with timely encounters and conversations. You may find yourself referenced here or perhaps feel resonance with some of the themes.
Stay tuned for In the Wake of Totality: The Underview Effect 2.0 coming this Fall 2024 when the Story continues in classes, practices and gatherings I will offer around cultivating connection to the lunar cycle with its implications for daily living in harmony within and without.
In the meantime I am grateful to be sharing this writing as an acknowledgement and celebration of our collective humanity and our connection with all life on Earth, and beyond!
Sincerely and Totally ~
